The Smallest Chamois Subspecies

The Cantabrian Chamois is the smallest chamois subspecies. Its colors and behavior are very similar to the Pyrenean Chamois, but its trophy size is considerably smaller.

This species can only be hunted in the mountain ranges of northern Spain, making it a very special trophy for hunters looking for a unique mountain hunting experience in Spain.

The Cantabrian Chamois is found in the Cordillera Cantábrica, a mountain range in northern Spain located between León, Asturias, Cantabria and Lugo.

IberHunting organizes this hunt mainly in the province of León, an area known for its high mountain landscapes and natural heritage, including the Picos de Europa National Park.

Hunting Season

May to Mid-November

The hunting season for Cantabrian Chamois runs from May 1st to mid-November. The hunt is closed during August.

The rut begins around mid-October, making this period especially interesting for hunters looking for increased animal activity.

A High Mountain Stalking Experience

Cantabrian Chamois hunting is a high mountain stalking hunt. Hunters are guided through rugged northern Spanish terrain while searching for a suitable trophy in open mountain areas.

The hunt takes place in an exceptional natural environment where chamois share habitat with other wildlife such as Spanish ibex, roe deer, red deer, wolves and bears.

Accommodation during the Cantabrian Chamois hunt is arranged in small mountain hotels or charming rural homes located close to the hunting areas.

The region also offers a strong gastronomic tradition, with local mountain dishes and authentic northern Spanish cuisine.

    TERMS FOR BOOKING AND CANCELLATIONS

    Licenses, Payments and Hunting Conditions

    IberHunting must arrange the hunting license before the hunter’s arrival.

    To confirm the booking, a deposit of 50% of the hunt cost is required. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 60 days before the hunting date.

    Trophy measurement is carried out “en verde” in the field by the rangers of the Hunting Reserve. Injured animals that cannot be found are considered taken and must be paid for by the hunter.

    If weather conditions prevent a successful hunt, or if the expected trophy is not found during the hunt, the hunter may return during the following two years, paying only the Spanish hunting license and insurance and the daily rates.

    For the management of the Spanish hunting license and insurance, IberHunting will need a copy of the hunter’s hunting license and identity card or passport.
