The Aoudad Sheep, scientifically known as Ammotragus lervia, is a mountain species from the Caprine family, native to the rocky regions of the Sahara and western North Africa.
In Spain, Aoudad Sheep are found across the southeastern mountains, from the Region of Murcia to eastern Andalusia, including Sierra de María–Los Vélez in Almería and Orce in Granada.
The species has short reddish or sandy-brown hair, with a lighter underside and a distinctive shaggy beard covering the throat and front legs.
The Aoudad Sheep is perfectly adapted to dry, rocky and semi-desert mountain terrain.
It moves confidently across cliffs, steep slopes and rugged Mediterranean landscapes, making it a challenging and impressive species to hunt.
Both males and females have horns, although female horns are considerably smaller and slimmer.
Mature males develop large horns with a wide base and triangular cross-section. The horns grow backward in a circular shape and continue developing throughout the animal’s life.
Aoudad Sheep live in mixed groups made up of males of different ages, females and young animals.

Your Aoudad Sheep hunting adventure begins with your arrival at either Murcia–San Javier Airport or Alicante Airport.
The IberHunting team will welcome you upon arrival and assist you throughout your stay. After completing any necessary firearm documentation, you will be transferred to the Parador de Lorca, where you can relax before your first hunting day.
The hunting area is located approximately 35 minutes from the hotel, allowing quick and comfortable daily access to the mountains.
Each hunting day begins early in the morning after breakfast.
Together with your professional guide, you will travel to the hunting area and begin glassing the mountains using binoculars and spotting scopes to locate a mature Aoudad Sheep.
Once the selected trophy has been identified, the stalk begins. Every approach is carefully planned according to the terrain, wind direction and the animal’s position, always following the guide’s recommendations to maximize the chances of success.
Typical shooting distances range between 150 and 250 meters, and the recommended calibers for this hunt are .300 Winchester Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum and .270 Weatherby.

To confirm your Aoudad Sheep hunting program, a 50% deposit of the total hunting cost is required.
The remaining balance must be paid no later than 60 days before the scheduled hunting date.
IberHunting will arrange the required Spanish hunting license and hunting insurance before your arrival.
Trophy measurements are carried out “en verde” (green measurement) in the field by the rangers of the hunting reserve. Final official measurements may vary after the mandatory drying period.
Any animal that is wounded and cannot be recovered will be considered harvested and must be paid for by the hunter.
Under normal weather conditions, Aoudad Sheep hunts have a 100% success rate. If severe weather conditions prevent a successful hunt or a suitable trophy is not found, the hunting license may be kept and the hunter may return within the following two years, paying only the Spanish hunting license and insurance fee (€350) together with the applicable daily rates (€750).
To arrange the required Spanish hunting license and insurance, IberHunting must receive a copy of the hunter’s valid hunting license together with a copy of the passport or national identity document before the hunt.
