About ALTAI IBEX, GOBI IBEX & MARAL

Three Legendary Hunting Experiences

Mongolia is one of Asia’s premier hunting destinations, offering the opportunity to pursue three remarkable big game species in a single country. From the rugged Altai Mountains and the remote Gobi Desert to the rolling hills of Tuv Province, each region provides a unique hunting experience shaped by spectacular landscapes, abundant wildlife and centuries-old nomadic traditions.

International hunters travel to Mongolia not only for its outstanding trophy quality, but also for the authenticity of the adventure. Carefully managed hunting areas, experienced local guides and limited hunting quotas make every expedition both exclusive and unforgettable.

Species Characteristics

Altai Ibex

The Altai Ibex inhabits the rugged mountains of western Mongolia and is one of Asia’s most prestigious mountain trophies. Mature males are renowned for their massive, heavily ridged horns, with outstanding trophy quality found throughout carefully managed hunting areas. This hunt takes place in demanding alpine terrain and is ideal for hunters seeking a true mountain adventure.

Gobi Ibex

The Gobi Ibex lives among the rocky hills of the Gobi Desert, where lighter-colored animals have adapted to one of the harshest environments in Asia. Although generally smaller than the Altai Ibex, this subspecies offers an exciting spot-and-stalk hunt across more moderate terrain and can be combined with an Altai Ibex expedition.

Maral Stag

The Mongolian Maral is one of the largest red deer subspecies in the world and is famous for producing impressive antlers. Mongolia supports exceptional Maral populations, making it one of the finest destinations for hunters pursuing mature stags during the autumn rut. Hunts take place in the Tuv Province and can also be combined with other species available in the region.

Why Hunt Mongolia?

Mongolia combines spectacular mountain landscapes, remote wilderness, healthy wildlife populations and authentic nomadic hospitality to create one of the most rewarding hunting destinations in Asia. Whether you choose Altai Ibex, Gobi Ibex, Maral, or a combination of species, every expedition offers a unique and unforgettable hunting experience.

Hunting Season

July 15th to October 10th

The Altai Ibex and Gobi Ibex hunting season runs from July 15th to October 15th, while the Maral season takes place from August 20th to October 1st, with the peak rut occurring between September 15th and September 30th. During this period, Mongolia offers stable weather conditions, comfortable daytime temperatures between 5°C and 15°C, and excellent visibility for spot-and-stalk hunting.

Whether hunting in the rugged Altai Mountains, the rocky Gobi Desert or the rolling hills of Tuv Province, each season provides exceptional opportunities to pursue mature trophies in some of Asia’s most spectacular wilderness areas.

ALTAI - GOBI IBEX & MARAL

Mongolia Hunting Areas

Altai Mountains – Home of the Siberian Ibex

Western Mongolia’s Altai Mountains are renowned for producing exceptional Siberian Ibex trophies. Steep alpine terrain, dramatic valleys and elevations of around 2,450 meters create a demanding but highly rewarding mountain hunt for experienced hunters.

Gobi Desert – Gobi Ibex Country

The Gobi Desert offers a completely different hunting experience. Rocky desert hills and more moderate terrain are home to the distinctive Gobi Ibex, making this region ideal for hunters seeking an exciting mountain hunt with easier physical demands and the possibility of combining additional species.

Tuv Province – Mongolia's Premier Maral Destination

Located just a few hours from Ulaanbaatar, Tuv Province is one of Mongolia’s finest areas for Maral hunting. Rolling hills, open landscapes and healthy wildlife populations provide excellent opportunities to pursue mature stags, while the region also allows combination hunts with other available species.

Three Exceptional Hunting Adventures in Mongolia

Experience three of Mongolia’s most iconic hunting expeditions in one of Asia’s last great wilderness destinations. Whether pursuing the majestic Altai Ibex in the rugged western mountains, the distinctive Gobi Ibex across the rocky desert landscapes, or the impressive Maral Stag in the rolling hills of Tuv Province, every hunt combines breathtaking scenery, experienced local guides and authentic Mongolian hospitality.

Each expedition is carefully organized to provide outstanding hunting opportunities while ensuring a safe, ethical and unforgettable experience in some of Mongolia’s most remote hunting areas.

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Your adventure begins upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, where our local team welcomes you before transferring to the selected hunting area by road or domestic flight, depending on the destination. Every detail is carefully coordinated to ensure a smooth start to your expedition.

Spot-and-Stalk Hunting

All hunts are conducted using the traditional spot-and-stalk method. Hunters work alongside experienced professional guides to locate mature trophies before carefully planning the final approach. Depending on the species and hunting area, the terrain ranges from demanding alpine mountains to rolling desert hills and open valleys.

Three Unique Hunting Areas

Every species offers a different challenge. The Altai Ibex inhabits steep mountain terrain, the Gobi Ibex lives among rocky desert hills with more moderate landscapes, and the Maral Stag is hunted across the open hills of Tuv Province during the autumn rut. This variety allows hunters to choose the adventure that best matches their experience and hunting objectives.

ACCOMMODATION

Strategically located close to the hunting areas, these camps minimize daily travel while allowing hunters to experience one of Asia’s most authentic wilderness destinations.

Each ger is comfortably equipped with beds, mattresses, bed linen and a wood-burning stove, providing a warm and relaxing environment after long days in the mountains or desert.

Authentic Mongolian Hospitality

Beyond the hunt itself, staying in a traditional Mongolian camp offers the opportunity to experience the country’s renowned hospitality and nomadic culture. Sharing meals, evenings around the camp and life in the remote wilderness becomes an essential part of the adventure, making every expedition as memorable as the hunt itself.
